The Ultimate Dining and Drinking Guide to Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta is such a foodie city, they have a big variety of food, everything is very fresh and authentic. PV is located in the state of Jalisco in Mexico, you can also check out my article on 10 things to do there. Here is my Puerto Vallarta food guide.

🥘 Restaurants:

  • El Itacate: The chicharon de queso is really good - It was my first time trying it and I went there at least 4 times while I was there. Very authentic, and fresh!

  • El Barracuda: Nice and easy going beach restaurant - The grilled octopus and seafood are very good! You can eat inside or outside with you feet in the sand and spend your whole afternoon there.

  • Mezcal & sal: They bring you every drink with an artsy decor - It was my first time eating a Tlayuda, and it was very good.

  • OPA Greek Bistro - The Original: I didn't expect to eat greek food in Mexico, but I have to say I came here a couple of time because it was very authentic, and it's a nice change if you want to take a break form Mexican food. I'd recommend the greek salad and beef kebab.

  • Bonito Kitchen: Japanese cuisine - They have a cute little outside patio - Nice teas, cocktails and great menu if you like asian food. Everything is handmade fresh.

  • Lamara: Very fresh ceviche - Careful when you order, their mild is very spicy if you are not used to it.

  • Homún: If you are looking for a more curated dinning experience - that revisits classic Mexican cuisine.

  • Tintoque: For a culinary experience - revisited Mexican dishes (from their creative menu) - with wine paring, this is your spot!

  • Taqueria la Hormiga: You can stay in Mexico without trying some street tacos - this is a must, and Taqueria la Hormiga is the most renown one.

  • Café des Artistes: Great culinary experience - with tasting menus of grilled meat & vegetarian dishes, amazing cocktails with live music in a nice garden terrace.

🍸Bars:

Nice little hidden bar, they have a great vibe with an outside terrace.

Very international, but great atmosphere (it can get a bit crowded at night). It's very central so it's a nice place to start at. Their thing is that they serve the drinks in huge glasses, make sure you site at the bar!

Other cool places...

Trendy and cool - These are not the best food wise, but they have cool concepts and are quite trendy if that's what you're into:

  • La Leche: Cool all white decor, cool trendy dinner place.

  • Le Kliff: Located a bit further from PV, more on the pricier end, but there is a very nice view - and it's just next to Boca de Tomatlan, if you want to visit.

  • iK Mixology Bar & Cuisine

  • River Cafe

  • Noroc: Cool decor, food is alright (you have to like savory and sweet mix), but the view is nice - especially at sunset!

  • La Madalena
