If you are living in Europe, there might be good offers on flight tickets that would make a day trip in a European city you've never been to worth it without incurring the cost of a hotel room.
Stockholm was a lovely and relaxing city, everything from transportation to customer service was very smooth. Compared to busy London it was like that relaxed feeling you have after a yoga class. Worth the detour and easy to to around in just a day.
1. Walk around the old town
Gamla stan is the city’s old town, it's very narrow cobbled streets with colorful 17th- and 18th-century buildings. It's quite small so you can go around it fairly quickly. some of the streets are quite animated with a lot of shops and cafes.
2. Have a typical Swedish lunch
Make sure you try the Swedish meatballs or fish specialties. I went to the restaurant called Slingerbulten, it was very good and quick service, just make sure to book if you are going to a busy day, but there are a lot of other restaurant options around.
3. The Royal Palace and Armoury
The Royal Palace and Armoury are one of the main attractions and must-see if that's what you're into.
4. Nobel Prize Museum
The Nobel Prize Museum is also a big highlight of the city. Make sure to check if they are open when you are going and book in advance.
5. Take an afternoon break at the Bakery
Swedish are a fan of sweet pastries, they offer a lot of puff pastries and other creamy desserts and cakes. Vete-Katten and Mr Cake are good options if you have a sweet tooth.
6. Underground stations
You can buy a pass to use the public transport for 2 hours and stop at some of the iconic underground stations. Most of them have a unique mural and design.
